UPDATE (Christmas Eve 2016): The plane carrying our field hospital along with other relief supplies has landed safely in Erbil, Iraq. It was unloaded on a rainy Christmas morning (Iraqi time).

Samaritan's Purse airlifted an emergency field hospital and relief supplies from Greensboro, North Carolina, to Erbil, Iraq, on December 23. The hospital will treat those injured and traumatized during the battle to liberate Mosul and surrounding areas, which have been controlled by ISIS for more than two years. The hospital is being established in partnership with the Iraqi Ministry of Health.

Since October a large military coalition led by the Iraqi army has been liberating towns on the Nineveh plains and other areas around Mosul. Some neighborhoods inside Mosul have also been freed, but the offensive's progress within the city limits has been hampered by ISIS brutality and the nature of street-to-street combat. More than 100,000 people—about half of whom are children—have been displaced by the monthslong offensive. Many are fleeing with only the clothes on their backs and find themselves in desperate need of medical care and emergency aid.

The hospital will span more than five acres and be equipped with an emergency room, two operating rooms, pharmacy, and about 50 beds. Joined by dozens of essential support staff, 40-plus medical staff will treat injuries from gunfire, mines, and other explosives. The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has reported an increase in these and other traumatic injuries among civilians over the past several weeks in eastern Mosul.
Christian medical personnel are urgently needed to serve for a minimum of three weeks at the emergency trauma field hospital. Especially needed are trauma/general surgeons, anesthesiologists, emergency medicine physicians, operating room nurses, and intensive care unit nurses.
Apply Now to Serve at the Field Hospital The cargo jet chartered by Samaritan's Purse is also packed with 400 rolls of shelter plastic, more than 5,000 hygiene kits, and 5,000 cooking kits. Each cooking kit includes plates, cups, spoons, a five-liter cooking pot, and a seven-liter cooking pot. These will be distributed to those displaced by the current conflict, as well as to those displaced in 2014 and now returning to liberated villages.

Ongoing Relief

Earlier this month we deployed a mobile medical team to serve alongside the Samaritan's Purse disaster response team and national staff who are providing physical and spiritual relief in Jesus' Name.
Samaritan's Purse, in partnership with the World Food Programme, is distributing monthly food rations—supplies of salt, sugar, cooking oil, chickpeas, rice, flour, and beans—to tens of thousands of people at six evacuee camps.

In addition to food, we have distributed items such as medicine, clothing, shoes, bedding, and kerosene heaters to returnees and displaced families who narrowly escaped Mosul's terror.
Samaritan's Purse has been in Iraq for nearly a decade, investing in the lives of Iraqis through projects such as children's programs and medical care. Our work has included providing emergency relief since 2014 to displaced people by ISIS.

شفق نيوز/ يتلقى المدنيون والجنود الذين أصيبوا مع محاولة القوات العراقية استعادة مدينة الموصل من تنظيم داعش العلاج في مستشفى ميداني مزود بتكنولوجيا متطورة على بعد نحو 20 كيلومترا من خطوط المواجهة.
وأنشأت منظمة الإغاثة الأمريكية ساماريتان بورس هذا المستشفى الذي يتولى علاج الإصابات الناجمة عن الشظايا والرصاص والقنابل بعد عيد الميلاد في رقعة من الصحراء على بعد نحو نصف ساعة بالسيارة من الاشتباكات في شرق الموصل. والمستشفى مزود بغرف طوارئ ووحدات رعاية مركزة وصيدلية بها كافة الأدوية.
واختصر هذا المستشفى وقتا كبيرا من الرحلة التي كان يتعين القيام بها إلى مدينة إربيل الكوردية وهي أقرب مكان تتوافر فيها منشآت للرعاية الطبية وعولج فيه بالفعل ما يزيد عن 100 مريض.
وقال مدير المستشفى ديفيد جيتل (68 عاما) "رأينا مراهقين مصابين برصاص قناصة في رؤوسهم من الخلف وطفلا عمره ست سنوات مصابا بالرصاص في بطنه وأشخاصا مصابين في ظهورهم أثناء محاولتهم الهرب.
"عندما أصيبوا في الموصل اضطروا لقطع رحلة استغرقت ما بين ساعتين وثلاث ساعات عبر نقاط تفتيش ونقل بسيارات الإسعاف وتوفي بالفعل أناس أثناء محاولتهم الحصول على مساعدة."
وتقول المنظمة الدولة للهجرة إن نحو 145 ألف شخص اضطروا للنزوح من الموصل في الأشهر الثلاثة الأولى من الحملة وهي أكبر معركة في العراق منذ الغزو الذي قادته الولايات المتحدة وأسقط صدام حسين في 2003 .
واستعادت قوات مكافحة الإرهاب والجيش والشرطة العسكرية العراقية النصف الشرقي بأكمله تقريبا من الموصل في قتال شرس عبر الشوارع لكن تنظيم داعش ما زال يسيطر بشكل كامل على الجانب الغربي.
وتتناثر ستة مخيمات للنازحين من الموصل والمناطق النائية في الصحراء الواقعة حول المدينة وفي الطريق إلى إربيل.
*رعاية غير كافية بالمخيمات
وكانت الأمم المتحدة قد حذرت من أن عملية استعادة الموصل وهي أكبر معقل حضري لتنظيم داعش في العراق أو سوريا المجاورة قد يشرد ما يصل إلى 1.5 مليون شخص.واختار معظم الناس البقاء في ديارهم أو الانتقال بشكل مؤقت للإقامة عند أقارب لهم في أحياء أخرى ومنع المتشددون كثيرين آخرين من الفرار.
ويقول الناس المقيمون في المخيمات أنهم يواجهون صعوبة في الحصول على رعاية صحية كافية.
وقالت امرأة في الخازر بشرق الموصل إن زوجها توفي الشهر الماضي بعد إصابته بوعكة خلال الليل لعدم توافر سيارات إسعاف.
وأضافت خارج خيمتها وقد أحاط بها أطفالها إن "السائق قال إنه ليس لديه بنزين." وقالت إن حارسا أبلغهم بأن سيارات الإسعاف لا تأتي ليلا . وقالت "لو كانوا جاءوا مبكرا ربما كان ما زال حيا."
وقال طبيب في المخيم إن منشآت الرعاية الصحية غير كافية. وقال الطبيب الذي طلب عدم ذكر اسمه خوفا من الانتقام "نحن بحاجة لمزيد من الأخصائيين وأواجه قيودا في عدد الأشخاص الذي يمكنني إرسالهم إلى إربيل.. ولكن بعض الناس بحاجة لهذه المساعدة."
وقال تقرير أصدره في الآونة الأخيرة مكتب الأمم المتحدة لتنسيق الشؤون الإنسانية إن هناك حاجة لعدد أكبر من سيارات الإسعاف وتنظيم أفضل.
ويشعر الأطباء والممرضون في المستشفى الميداني الجديد بقدرتهم على المساعدة.
وقالت الممرضة بريتاني باركلي التي تعمل بالرعاية المركزة (27 عاما) "لدينا كل الأشياء التي نستخدمها في مستشفى بالولايات المتحدة.
"هم يحصلون على رعاية طبية كبيرة..الوقت مهم جدا. القرب بشكل كبير من خطوط المواجهة هو ما ينقذ حياة المرضى رغم أنه أكثر خطورة."
